How UAE VAT Works

Standard Rate

The UAE standard VAT rate is 5%, introduced on 1 January 2018 under Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017.

Zero-Rated Supplies

Certain supplies — including exports outside the UAE, international transport, and certain education and healthcare services — are taxed at 0%.

Exempt Supplies

Some supplies are exempt from VAT, including bare land, residential buildings, local passenger transport, and certain financial services.

How UAE Corporate Tax Works

Rates & Threshold

Corporate Tax applies under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 at 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% on the balance above it.

Small Business Relief

Businesses with revenue below the prescribed threshold may elect Small Business Relief and be treated as having no taxable income for the period.

Free Zone Persons

A Qualifying Free Zone Person may be taxed at 0% on qualifying income, provided all substance and qualifying-activity conditions are met.
